The
Crossroads Region is steeped in history. In Hubbardton,
located west of Rutland in the Lakes Region you will find
the only battle of the American Revolution which took
place entirely on Vermont soil - fought in July of 1777.
Nearby in Orwell is the Mount Independence Historic Site,
which includes several trails that connect well-preserved
remains of the Revolutionary War that was fought in the
area. A bustling municipal center, transportation hub and
important city for commerce, Rutland has, in many
respects, remained much the same since its early 1900's
heyday. In the middle of ski paradise, this small town
offers fine lodging, dining and shopping. Destined to
become one of Vermont's premier attractions, the Vermont
Marble Exhibit in Proctor is part art gallery, part
natural history museum. And while you are marveling at
Vermont's natural charms, a visit to the New England Maple
Museum is a must. The part of Vermont is also rich in
vacation rentals, ski lodges and welcoming bed and
breakfasts.
