Cut steak into desired portions. As you cut it, place onto wax paper to season. After all the meat has been cut up and placed on wax paper, lightly sprinkle with the meat tenderizer, salt, garlic powder, and pepper. Flip meat over and season other side.
To an electric skillet set at 375 degrees, add several heaping tablespoons of shortening for frying. Shortening should be very hot when meat is placed in it to fry. While oil is heating, use a mixing bowl and fill it halfway with milk. Fill another mixing bowl halfway with unbleached/all-purpose flour. (Eggs are not used with this recipe.)
Dip raw meat in milk bowl first, then dip in flour. Place in hot skillet. Fry for about 10 to 15 minutes on one side or until golden brown. Flip over.
After this batch is finished, add another batch. You may need to add more shortening for frying after each batch. After last batch of meat has been removed, use remaining oil in skillet for Mama's Gravy.
