Le Faux is a wonderful getaway that takes you away to another time and place. From the French for "the fake," this unique oceanfront cottage takes its name for the faux finish exterior that makes the cottage look like it was transported directly from 17th-century Europe. It has been meticulously detailed to duplicate the feel you could only get if you took an overseas trip.

The exterior of the cottage exudes a classic Tudor style. Inside, the fixtures and furniture are all exquisite antiques or faithful reproductions. Given the cottage's limited space, amenities have not been overlooked, from the ironed sheets and incredibly comfortable bed to the outstanding entertainment system. The beautifully laid-out bath, exquisite views, and oriental carpet add to the continental atmosphere. There is no kitchen.

From the cottage, you can look through pine trees south down the coast and out to the sea. From the fire pit next to the bluff's edge, you are literally a few feet from the edge of the continent! It's only a short walk to the path leading down to the seldom-used Mitchell Creek Beach. If you want to rejoin society for a short while, however, you are only six miles north of romantic Mendocino for dining and shopping.
