Three renowned festivals in Berkeley Springs center around fabulous taste sensations -- the annual Apple Butter Festival on Columbus Day weekend in October, Berkeley Springs international water tasting on the last weekend in February, and the Uniquely West Virginia Food and Wine Festival in mid-April. The Winter Festival of the Waters fills January through March with fun and excitement.
Snow-tubing, a go-kart track, miniature golf, Berkeley Castle, and the remarkable Paw Paw Tunnel (the largest man-made structure on the Canal) are exciting attractions for the entire family. Finally, don't forget to ask the locals about the world-class view from high atop Panorama Overlook.
For those looking for attractions, an hour drive through the surrounding river valleys and mountains takes the traveler to an incredible array of activities and sites. Whitetail Ski Resort is a half-hour away, as is Antietam Battlefield. There's the Potomac Eagle scenic train in Romney and Harpers Ferry National Historic Park to the east. The C&O Canal is just over the Potomac in Maryland. Other quaint historic towns in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia include Shepherdstown, Charles Town, and Harpers Ferry. Outlet shopping is nearby in Martinsburg.
