Start this simple treat the night before for a special-occasion breakfast.

Ingredients

12 slices firm-textured bread

1/2 pound butter or margarine

One 8-ounce package cream cheese, softened

4 Tablespoons Grand Marnier or 1-1/2 teaspoons grated orange rind

1/2 cup chopped pecans

8 eggs

2-1/2 cups milk

2 Tablespoons granulated sugar

Syrup and powdered sugar

Butter one side of each bread slice. Place 6 slices flat, buttered side down, in a lightly buttered 13 x 9-inch pan. Mix cream cheese, 1/2 of the Grand Marnier or orange rind, and pecan in a bowl. Spread evenly on the bread slices in pan and cover with the remaining slices, buttered side up. Beat eggs, milk, granulated sugar, and remaining Grand Marnier together and pour over bread. Refrigerate overnight. An hour before serving, bake at 350 degrees for 50 minutes. Serve hot with syrup and powdered sugar.
