Passing through the gates of the Bacon
Mansion Bed and Breakfast in Seattle Washington, guests view
the stained glass red and white shields or emblem of the
mansion.
Built in 1909 by Cecil Bacon on Seattle's
Capitol Hill, this classical Edwardian-style Tudor shows not
only the trademark family crest but demonstrates a fine
preservation of original woods, a three-thousand-piece crystal
chandelier, marble fireplaces and a treasured library. Located
in the Historical Harvard-Belmont Landmark District of
Seattle, most of the Mansion's original floor-plan and
exterior has been retained. In 1984 a great fire spread
through the Mansion, burning sixty percent of the interior.
The house's massive walls, however, spared the glass and wood
pocket doors found in the "day rooms". Reopening in
1985 as The Broadway Guest House, this exceptional bed and
breakfast now retains the namesake of its builder, The Bacon
Mansion.
The main guest house consists of nine
thousand square feet of living space spread over four levels.
A spacious outside patio leads to the historical Carriage
House. Guests can choose from eleven individually decorated
guest rooms. Nine of the guest rooms have private baths, while
two guest rooms have a shared bath. Unique amenities enhance
different rooms including a carved bird's-eye maple queen bed,
glass French doors, queen beds, fireplace, day beds, wrought
iron beds, wing back chairs, sitting areas, and wet bars. In
the Carriage House, two beautifully decorated suites with
queen beds, private baths and more offer a quiet retreat. All
guest rooms are furnished with clock radio, television, hair
dryer, and telephone with private voice mail and High speed
Internet access data port. "Day rooms" are available
for social or business events. Guests enjoy sitting out on the
patio near the Italian fountain surrounded by colorful flowers
or exploring the house and learning its rich history. There is
a grand piano for all to enjoy. |
In the morning, guests awaken to an
enhanced Continental buffet with coffee, teas, muffins,
cereals, juices and other delicacies. Catered lunches,
dinners, and receptions are also available.
The Mansion is a short distance from the
Capitol Hill and downtown Seattle's commercial districts.
Enjoy shopping and access to fine restaurants as well as
Seattle's many attractions including the Broadway District,
the University of Washington Arboretum, Volunteer Park and
Conservatory, and the Japanese Gardens. The Cornish Institute,
Virginia Mason and Swedish Hospitals, and the Fred Hutchinson
Cancer Research Center are nearby. |
