Grunberg Haus, a three-story Austrian chalet providing bed and breakfast lodging accommodations all year long, is a classic example of Tyrolean architecture, complete with intricately carved balconies.

Surrounded by a forest, the Grunberg Haus is in a rural New England location yet is only five miles from an interstate highway and mid-way between Stowe and Sugarbush ski resorts in Vermont.

Eleven rooms at the inn overflow with antiques, comforters, and quilts. Each room opens to a balcony which surrounds the Grunberg Haus (Grunberg means "green mountain"). There are also three cabins with woodstoves, ideal romantic getaways for two, that are open from late May to the end of October.

For the comfort and safety of all guests, no smoking is allowed indoors. Your hosts have replaced television with crackling fires, conversation with fellow guests from all over the world, and good books from their personal library.

"The food is fabulous." Breakfast at the Grunberg Haus features homemade breads, fresh fruit creations, and hearty main dishes. Imagine overlooking the surrounding woods while enjoying pumpkin apple streusel muffins, maple poached pears, and ricotta-stuffed French toast. The living room and eating area are situated by a 20-foot-wide window.

Guests enjoy the quiet and casual nature of Grunberg Haus. In warm weather, walk on forest trails behind the Inn or relax on the deck between the rock garden and the perennial garden. In cold weather, cross-country ski or snowshoe out the front door or enjoy chess in the self-serve pub. You are welcome to help feed the Inn's chickens any time of the year.
