Travel,
Lodging, Cooking, Entertainment ... A web site celebrating the
good life! |
The
Mid Vermont region abounds fun activities for the whole
family! Go rock climbing in Goshen. Hike the Long Trail in
the Green Mountain National Forest. Or hunt for antiques at
back-road auctions and flea markets. Many of the area's
favorite recreational activities, whether hiking, horseback
riding or kayaking, are made even more enjoyable by the
beautiful landscape. Water sports enthusiasts will love what
is in store for them. White water rafting, canoeing,
fishing,
water skiing, and swimming are all here to enjoy in the
warmer months. Addison County boosts two great golf courses
along the shores of Lake Champlain and on the campus of
Middlebury College both open to the public. Middlebury is a
classic New England town whose Main Street is filled with
well-maintained late 18th and early 19th century buildings,
bed
and breakfast inns and interesting
restaurants and
shops. Middlebury is also host to many unique Vermont
cultural attractions as well, including the Vermont Folklife
Center, Henry Sheldon Museum of Vermont History, and UVM
Morgan Horse Farm. In Hubbardton, located west of Rutland in
the Lakes Region you will find the only battle of the
American Revolution which took place entirely on Vermont
soil - fought in July of 1777. Nearby in Orwell is the Mount
Independence Historic Site, which includes several trails
that connect well-preserved remains of the Revolutionary War
that was fought in the area. A bustling municipal center,
transportation hub and important city for commerce, Rutland
has, in many respects, remained much the same since its
early 1900's heyday. The Green Mountain Flier offers foliage
train rides from the heart of Chester Depot to Bellows
Falls. Don't miss Springfields Precision Valley
Corvette Museum. Bed and breakfast lodges and several
mountain ski
resorts, including Ascutney Mountain, Okemo, Killington,
Stratton, Bromley and Magic Mountain, are close. |
