Set high on a hill above the scenic
Buffalo Creek, on 36 acres with wonderful views of the
Blue Ridge Mountains and the Short Hills, Applewood Inn
offers bed and breakfast lodging accommodations in a very
private and beautiful setting. |

The passive solar home is furnished
with antiques, quilts and original artwork, and the
massive enclosed porches on the south side afford
wonderful views of the surrounding woods, pastures grazed
by llamas, and the distant mountains.
This unique three-level hillside Inn
has four guest rooms. On the ground level are two rooms,
each with private bath. Each of these rooms opens onto a
small porch so guests may enjoy the lovely vista.
Completing this level is a marvelous hot tub room that
opens out through french doors on the hillside. On the
second level are two adjoining guest rooms with private
baths, each opening out onto the largest of the porches.
Also on this level are the common room with fireplace,
library and satellite television with VCR, the dining
room; main kitchen; guest pantry and off the east end, a
lovely in-ground pool and patio with gazebo. All four
guest rooms have queen-sized beds, with one offering an
extra single-sized bed. Two rooms have two-person
Jacuzzis, and three have fireplaces.
Breakfast is truly a movable feast and
may be served on one of the porches, in the dining room or
in the large Inn kitchen. In keeping with the overall
atmosphere of the Inn, the breakfast menu usually includes
many heart-healthy dishes such as Gingered Peach Breakfast
Souffle or Multi-grain Waffles, fresh fruit, and fresh
baked breads served with homemade preserves. A hot water
dispenser and huge selection of beverages to go with it is
available to guests any time of the day or night. Guests
who want to sleep late may arrange for a continental
breakfast to be left outside their room.
As guests approach the Inn along the
winding Buffalo Creek, leaving it to follow a stream up
the hill to the Inn, they enter a world unto itself, where
wildlife abounds and time seems to stand still. Linda and
Chris, your hosts and innkeepers since 1978, welcome you.

Adjoining the Inn property is more than 900
acres used by the Rockbridge Hunt Club. There are trails
available for hiking, riding (bring your own horse), or llama
treks, which can be arranged in advance.
The Inn also has access to the Buffalo
Creek for fishing and tubing. Nearby, one can go canoeing on
the James River, play golf, go on trail rides, or hike the
Appalachian Trail.
The Inn is located on a state-maintained
dirt road off of Route 11, which is just minutes from Historic
Downtown Lexington. |
