Named for Natural Bridge, one of the seven natural wonders of the world, Rockbridge County offers visitors unparalleled scenery in the heart of the Virginia's beautiful Shenandoah Valley. Nestled between the Blue Ridge Mountains to the east, and the Appalachians to the west, Rockbridge County has it all: mountains, forests, rivers and streams, small towns and cities, and history everywhere.

Vacationers will find themselves enchanted by Lexington's historic downtown district. The 19th century college town, home to Virginia Military Institute and Washington and Lee University, has been so authentically restored that it was the town setting for the movie Sommersby.

  • Tour a countryside replete with the spectacular beauty of Natural Bridge, Goshen Pass, and the Appalachian Trail.
  • Wander through historic attractions such as Cyrus McCormick Farm, and the homes of colleges, churches and the final resting places of Confederate Generals Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson.
  • Partake of cultural events at Lenfest Center, Theater at Lime Kiln, and the George C. Marshall Museum at VMI.
  • Spend hours or days at the Virginia Horse Center where equestrian events take place year round.
  • Enjoy comfortable accommodations at historic, country inns and B & B's, fine hotels and motels, or camp at one of our numerous campgrounds.
  • Hike, fish, hunt, tube, or canoe our mountains, lakes, streams, and rivers.
  • Take daytrips to historic Charlottesville, the battlefield museum at New Market, and Apomattox Court House.
  • Browse through country stores, boutiques, a 250-dealer antique mall, and department stores.
