The Buchanan Inn at Green Cove Station is the completely
renovated and refurbished home of the Buchanan family, who
left their own unique history with the house. The structure
was built around 1915 to accommodate the growing family of
William and Mary Buchanan. After William became owner and/or
operator of the General Store, Train Station, Post Office, and
Western Union office in Green Cove, his house became the
supply, communication, and story-telling spot for farmers and
youth throughout the area.
Mary kept her daughters and anyone else in sight busy with
the daily chore of making lunch for the train passengers, and
it was not uncommon for the home to serve as a makeshift hotel
for stranded or snowed-in travelers. From the 1920's to the
1960's, Mary maintained this steady support for the passengers
and crew of the N&W.
The Buchanan tradition is still alive at the inn today, with
each of the three rooms named for the Buchanan daughters:
Adele, LaVaun, and Eleanor. The common room is named for the
youngest daughter, Clarice. Renovation has restored the
authenticity of these accommodations, but has not left you
without the convenience of a private bath, ceiling fans, and
central heat and air conditioning. Queen-sized beds are draped
in distinctive bedding, and each room has its own personality.
The comfortable common room is ideal for unwinding and offers
a fireplace and surround sound television. For guests renting
Buchanan Inn as a vacation rental, a fully equipped kitchen is
also available, as well as a living room, dining room, and
fourth bath.
Breakfast, a hearty meal that will satisfy any appetite, is
included with your stay. Plenty of freshly brewed coffee is
always on hand. Your hosts, Jim and Annette Goode, are happy
to accommodate dietary restrictions with advance request.
Among the Goode family's goals for the Buchanan Inn is to
restore some of the hospitality of yesterday and bring to all
who pass by a warm place of charm, friendship, and delectable
cuisine from the recipes of Mary's granddaughter, Annette.
