The Wildflower Loop around Johnson City is a must for anyone who enjoys Texas wildflowers, particularly bluebonnets. Ladybird Johnson's endeavor to improve the roadsides with wildflowers started here in Central Texas. Contact the Johnson City Texas Visitor and Tourism Bureau for complete tour information, including step-on guides for tour buses and self-guided tours.

Pedernales Falls State Park The flood-prone Pedernales River is the focal point of the 5,212 acre Pedernales Falls State Park. Formed as the river flows through a vast limestone gorge and tumbles over two natural rock dams, the falls display natural beauty in sight and sound.

Over 150 bird species have been noted at the park including the endangered golden-cheeked warbler. Birders should visit the park between mid-march and mid June for the best warbler viewing opportunities.

Six miles of river frontage provide recreational use as visitors enjoy a variety of activities including fishing, camping, horseback riding off-road bicycling, swimming, picnicking and hiking. Numerous springs and streams are located throughout the park nurturing wildlife and plant life.

The park contains 21 miles of hiking trails including 7.5 mile Wolf Mountain Trail a favorite among hikers, backbackers and offroad bikes. There is also a 10 mile equestrian trail. A naturalist's paradise, Pedernales Falls State Park provides for abundant wildlife including whitetail deer, armadillo, raccoon, great blue heron, wild turkey, osprey, bald eagle and numerous songbirds.
