The Kuenemann House Inn Bed and Breakfast
is a historic estate built in 1847, the year following the
settlement of Fredericksburg in Texas' Hill Country. The
initial half-timbered structure utilized the earliest European
building technique, while the beautiful Victorian additions,
including the gingerbread porches and the tin ornamentation,
were constructed in the 1880's.
This transition in the appearance of the
house mirrors the frontier beginning and the affluent climax
of the Heinrich Kuenemann saga. The Kuenemann House has
received the Recorded Texas Historic Landmark designation from
the Texas Historical Commission and has been honored with a
preservation award from the National Trust for Historic
Preservation.
The Kuenemann House Inn, beautifully
appointed with antiques and German lace, boasts an inviting
parlor, dining room, and spacious kitchen that are reflections
of an elegant but simpler time. The original decor has been
restored, including Victorian ceiling paper. All of the
woodwork has been returned to its rich mahogany finish. The
large, early Texas kitchen projects a family-oriented aura
with a traditional large round table; a favorite gathering
place. The historic estate has a widely acclaimed
archive/museum in a separate building.
You may choose from three beautifully
appointed rooms during your stay at the Kuenemann House Inn.
Each lodging accommodation ensures your comfort with a private
bath, fresh flowers, television, and coffee serving amenities.
TheHeinrich Suite consists of a bedroom and
parlor, both boasting restored mahogany stained woodwork. The
bedroom features a queen-sized bed with an antique dresser and
wardrobe in a blue decor highlighted by European lace
curtains, while the elegant parlor with a large armoire
contains a television and wet bar as well as a refrigerator.
The second-floor Freidrich Suite
also provides a bedroom and parlor. An antique queen-sized bed
and antique wardrobe and dresser with shades of beige and
green are included in this suite. Traditional Victorian, the
parlor provides a large armoire containing the wet bar,
refrigerator, and television. The Anna Catherine Room
is furnished with a queen-sized bed, wardrobe, dresser, and
television and also features coffee service. The bed and bath
are richly embellished with restored mahogany stained woodwork
and a decor of rose and lavender shades.
Enjoy leisurely breakfasts on the veranda
overlooking the fountain and spacious lawn. A full breakfast
may offer such delights as mixed fruit compote, eggs benedict,
quiche, strawberry and peach shortcakes, and various breads.
Each afternoon, wine is offered to guests in a variety of
gracious settings. |
This Victorian estate, one of the most
distinguished homes of its era in central Texas, features the
main house, garden cottage, and remodeled barn. Massive elm
trees lie behind a tall hedge and shade the lawns and gardens
with a quiet ambiance. The murmur of the fountain adds its
tranquil note to the adjacent veranda. The vine-covered arbor
is a restful, shaded haven within the expansive lawns.
The Kuenemann House Inn, nestled in the
quiet neighborhood above Barrons Creek, is only a five-minute
walk from the town's restaurants, museums, and shops. An
eighteen-hole golf course, tennis, and hiking are all offered
in the area as well. History buffs won't want to miss the LBJ
Ranch and boyhood home of Lyndon B. Johnson or the Nimitz
museum. The Old World architecture of Fredericksburg adds to
the atmosphere of this wonderful German town. Antiquing and
old German festivals such as Octoberfest are famous
attractions, along with five weekends of horse racing. |
