About:
Artist Meryl Ruth
B.F.A. School
of Visual Arts, Boston University, 1977
Master of Arts, Teacher of Students with Moderate
Disabilities, Lesley College, 1982
Meryl Ruth did
not begin her career with clay but with watercolor. It was
after a ceramics course that she changed the focus of her art.
Trained as a painter, process is very important to Meryl. She
can spend hours building, throwing, changing, painting,
piercing and otherwise adorning each vessel. Meryl's
dedication to her art is expressed in the uniqueness and
detail found within each vessel.
In January
2004, my sister, Lynn Alice Friedman, was diagnosed with
metastasized breast cancer. In honor of Lynn, I have been
developing a new line of work called the "LAF" Line.
LAF Line pieces are joyous and humorous and stand not only for
the initials of my sister's name, but the lines on a laughing
woman's face. "
