About:
Artist Arkady Orekhov
School
of Art & Architecture, Polytechnic Institute, Lvov
Arkady
Orekhov was born in 1949 in Lvov, Ukraine. He studied music at
secondary school and today, in addition to painting, performs
in a jazz band which has toured through Europe a number of
times.
Orekhov's
childhood fascination with railroad trains and trolley cars
developed into serious study of their structure and mechanical
history, and they appear often in his paintings (A body of his
work hangs in the permanent collection of Lvov's History of
Railroad Museum.) Another hallmark of Orekhov's work is his
close-up, cropped perspective of the city. He offers a casual
identification of the sites he paints, yet conversely renders
all with precise detail.
Orekhov
has had several one-man shows in galleries of European Russia.
His work hangs in a permanent public collection at the Lvov
History of Railroad Museum. Throughout the Soviet period,
Orekhov's work was selected by a number of prominent communist
party officials for their personal collections. His sensitive
portrayal of Lvov's streets and alleys is accomplished with
watercolors.
