Harbor House Inn is the only
waterfront Bed & Breakfast in the historic district of
Georgetown, South Carolina's third oldest city.
This imposing three-story Georgian house, which has graced
the bank of the Sampit River since 1765, has a long and
storied reputation for welcoming travelers across the globe.
Sailors say the distinctive red roof is visible three miles
out across the bay and that the once plentiful sailing ships
aligned their wheels to that brick-colored beacon when seeking
entry to the harbor.
Situated on a gracious bluff amid magnolias, camelias,
hydrangeas, and the sheltering arms of live oaks, the house
has been immaculately restored to its former grandeur and
blends the romance of the past with the convenience of the
present. Oriental carpets, heart of pine floors, colonial
molding, and family antiques leave traces of yore to recognize
and remember. The common parlor and dining area, always open
to guests, overlook the scenic harbor.
Each of the four guestrooms has a private bath. Every guest
room also provides visitors with a telephone, television,
individual thermostat, and a lovely harbor view. A separate
wet bar is provided for guests' convenience, and refreshments
are available.
A full breakfast is served every morning, perhaps including
the house special of shrimp and grits. Shrimp and crab dip and
adult beverages are offered in the afternoon as you watch the
sunset over the harbor from one of the porch rockers. Guests
may enjoy a second cup of coffee while they ponder the
possibilities the historic town of Georgetown has to offer. |
Located on Georgetown's historic working waterfront, Harbor
House is only steps from colorful shops, antique and art
galleries, and both casual and fine dining. Walking tours of
the National Register Historic District are a moment away from
your room, as are the Harborwalk and boat excursions. Guests
will enjoy exploring the local scenic beaches, canoe trails,
rice fields, and plantations. Those with recreation in mind
can find a game of tennis or golf only minutes from Harbor
House. Or, you may simply choose to relax at the inn. In
addition to the popular rockers, Innkeeper Meg Tarbox is happy
to share her joggling board, piano, bicycles, games, books, or
simply a quiet spot for shedding cares.
Enjoy an historically elegant home amidst an maritime
atmosphere that softens the line between yesterday and today.
