The Chalet over the Susquehanna River is a
spacious 1750 square foot vacation home across the river from
Millersburg. The views over the river and small hamlet of
Liverpool (founded over two hundred years ago!) are delightful
in every season.
Located in Susquehanna Valley in Central
PA, 25 miles north of Harrisburg, on Route 11 / 15, this
rental home has three spacious bedrooms and two baths. The
Master suite, romantically furnished room has a queen size bed
includes a huge closet and a small study which works great for
a baby bed or to hide away for a bit of study or painting. You
can luxuriate in a Jacuzzi tub or use the separate shower. All
linens are provided.
Two additional bedrooms, one with
traditional furnishing and the other with a jungle/Asian theme
have a double bed and a queen bed, with a private bathroom in
between. An upstairs loft is great for kids with sleeping
bags. An additional couple or children can sleep on the
fold-out couch in the living room. A fourth private bedroom
and bath are available by special arrangement.
The kitchen is fully equipped for those
family meals. Two spacious decks surround the A-frame chalet
with views of the river. There is an outdoor grill used by
arrangement. (Lower level not available.)
Area attractions include a neighborhood
pool in the summer, parks, playgrounds, ball field and tennis
courts all within walking distance. Fishing and camping are
local, as are many Amish and Old Order Mennonite attractions,
such as homes selling handmade quilts, fresh baked goods, and
crafts. Local farmers use horse-drawn plows and buggies. One
can visit old locks from the days of the canal boats when the
river canal connected Pittsburgh and Philadelphia by way of
Liverpool. The oldest continuous transportation in the U.S. is
just down at the river-a twenty-minute ferry ride which
crosses over to the charming town of Millersburg. Hiking on
the Appalachian Trail is minutes away. |
Hershey Park is one hour, Knoebels Park
about forty minutes from the Chalet. New Buffalo State Park
nearby includes picnicking, fishing, boating, and an enormous
swimming pool. Antique Car Museum is in Hershey plus many
other attractions. The softball museum is one hour north.
The oldest continuous transportation in the
nation is on the right down on the river-the ferry which
crosses over to Millersburg, a lovely twenty-minute ride. Many
charming small towns in the area boast museums, art shops and
cafes. Harrisburg boasts the most beautiful state capitol in
the U.S. The Civil War Museum and Gettysburg are easy drives.
