The Loralei Bed and Breakfast is a beautiful three-story
Victorian home situated on sycamore-lined streets in the
historic neighborhood of Ditmas Park in Brooklyn, one of the
largest collections of Victorian homes in the United States.
When guests visit the Loralei for the first time, they cannot
believe that such a private enclave of Victorian life exists
within New York City.
The long-time owners, Lance and Rob have renovated and
restored Loralei house to exquisite perfection from the
wraparound porch to the parlor sitting room and dining room
filled with beautifully appointed furniture and accented with
beveled glass French doors. Furnishings are both elegant and
welcoming as well as a delight to the eye.
Loralei accommodations are two elegantly appointed suites,
The Gramercy and The Sutton.
The Gramercy Suite is the Loralei's original
spacious master bedroom. This superior accommodation boasts
six tall windows on three exposures. The room has cherry wood
floors, floor to ceiling closets, a queen size bed, and
Victorian furnishings. The in-suite private full bath is an
opulent medley of green marble, oak and glass. A small sitting

The Sutton Bedroom is beautifully appointed with a
queen size bed facing three tall bay windows. The private full
bath, located next to this room via the hallway, is
beautifully decorated in white marble with red, black, and
white accents. Luxury robes are provided.
Sutton Bedroom guests wishing to sleep separately, or
arriving with an additional 3rd or 4th party, can use the
elegant Sutton Sitting Room across the hall for an additional
fee. This cozy room offers 2 twin beds, and allows the
additional members of your party to catch up on reading,
connect to the wireless Internet with their own laptop, or
relax by watching television. The private full bath at the end
of hall serves the two rooms of the Sutton Suite.
A delicious continental breakfast is available for
self-serve at 7:30 a.m. for the convenience of the early

There is a lot to do around Brooklyn. Visit Prospect Park,
the world-class Brooklyn Museum and the Brooklyn Botanical
Gardens. For a trip back in time, a stroll around Ditmas Park
will have you yearning for a horse and carriage. The beauty of
this Victorian enclave and the nearness of Manhattan will have
you believing you have entered a magical world, that you might
never want to leave. Manhattan may seem a world away from the
Victorian charm of this neighborhood but it is only a thirty
minute subway ride away. This is a great way to thoroughly
enjoy New York City using this bed and breakfast as a home
base and a relaxing retreat after a day in the city. |
Legend has it that Captain Bartholomew Olmstead, owner of a
vast shipping fleet, built the home in painstaking detail for
his bride to be, Loralei, who, it was rumored he had met
abroad. No one had met his fiance and it wasn't until he had
placed his finishing touch on the house, a plaque dedicated to
his bride, Loralei, that anyone knew her name.
When it was finally finished and after much anticipation,
a tall, heavily veiled figure glided onto the porch, then to
the parlor within.
That evening, the couple were seen waltzing in a kind of
rapture, yet the next morning the couple disappeared. Some say
that their happiness was too great for this world and they
live somewhere nearby but unseen.
To this very day, guests at the Loralei often experience
a kind of euphoria and tranquility. |
