Harbour Cottage Inn is an elegant 1870's Victorian bed and
breakfast with a casual, light and breezy atmosphere. The inn was
originally built as part of the Island House, the first summer
hotel on Mount Desert Island. This majestic mansion sits atop
Dirigo Hill overlooking the picturesque waters of Southwest
Harbor, Maine. The expansive, beautifully manicured lawns invite
travelers to relax and enjoy sunshine and ocean breezes. On a
rainy day, the covered veranda is the perfect place for cozy
conversation, card games and fun. Located near the center of the
charming town of Southwest Harbor, Harbour Cottage Inn is a
delightful combination of the elegant and the informal. |

Frommer's Travel Guide declares it "hard to find a better
breakfast anywhere!" First, enjoy eye-opening coffee or tea,
then let your hosts serve you a sumptuous breakfast to start your
day right. Box lunches to take with you are available when your
schedule is full. The inn also offers a wonderful choice of fine
wines and beer.
You will want to take advantage of one of Harbour Inn's casual
'beach cruiser' style bicycles to explore the the local area with
its charming shops, antiques, great restaurants and beautiful
scenery. Experience the excitement of sailing the harbors and
coves of Seal Harbor, Bass Harbor and Bar Harbor where you might
see puffins on the famous Egg Rock or the large seal population on
Mt. Desert Rock. Paddle your own canoe through the protected
waters of Echo Lake or try the open waters of Southwest Harbor and
don't miss the opportunity for whale watching tours offered every
day of the week.
Rock climbers and hikers will find every level of challenge at
Acadia National Park, the "recognized Mecca for rock climbers
and hikers" according to Maine Explorer's Guide, 1999.
Golfer's can enjoy some of New England's most beautiful courses
just minutes away from the Inn. Plan a memorable horse-drawn
carriage ride through the spectacular beauty of Acadia National
Park. The winter sports enthusiast will enjoy cross-country skiing
on the same 43 plus miles of carriage trails when they are covered
with snow. |
