Rated Three Stars by Mobil Guide and awarded Three Diamonds by AAA, the historic Castlemaine Bed and Breakfast is a delightfully light and airy romantic Victorian inn with twisting corridors and unexpected, sunny alcoves.

Built in 1886 by George Newman, the home later became the summer residence of the Austro-Hungarian ambassador and his wife, the Baron and Baroness Hengelmueler. Today, the Inn is beautifully restored and its location on a quiet side street in the village of Bar Harbor makes it a wonderful vacation getaway.

The Castlemaine Inn has ten charming rooms and seven comfortable suites, each with private bath, cable television, VCR, and air conditioning. Most rooms have mini-refrigerators, and many feature whirlpools, balconies, and/or fireplaces. All rooms have king or queen beds (some have queen canopy beds) and are decorated with fine linens. Antique pieces are sprinkled throughout the Inn.

A delightful continental buffet breakfast is served daily in the cheerful morning room or on the verandah from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Enjoy homemade breads and muffins complemented by freshly brewed coffee as well as a selection of fruit and cereals.

Castlemaine Inn is an easy walk to shops, restaurants, and ocean activities in Bar Harbor. Just a mile from Acadia National Park and the ferry terminal, to let you easily experience the natural beauty of the area. Take a scenic daytime or sunset cruise. Deep sea fish, whale watch, hike, bike, play golf, or even rock climb! A scenic walk along ocean beaches shore paths, a visit to the bird sanctuary, and the aromatic pine scent and salt tang in the air are just the antidotes for the stresses of everyday life.
