The Island House
Bed and Breakfast Inn

Since its beginnings as the first summer hotel on Mount Desert Island in the mid-1800's, the Island House has offered old-fashioned hospitality and a pleasant retreat for its many guests. We continue that tradition in our newly built B and B located in a quiet wooded setting nearby. The new Island House location has changed, however, the hospitality and hosts remain the same! Furnishings from Ann's and Charlie's childhood years in Southwest Harbor and Asia blend comfortably with the Maine simplicity of the house.

The two tastefully decorated guest rooms, each with private bath, have either a queen bed or a converted king which can be changed to twin beds. There is a comfortable common room for dining and relaxation. Internet access is offered as a courtesy to Island House guests.

Guests can partake in the tasty, ample breakfast served each morning. Enjoy such Island House favorites as Swiss eggs, French toast with caramel-nut topping, blueberry oatmeal pancakes, and home-baked Danish.

For activity seekers, you are close to swimming, sailing, biking, and hiking. A pleasant walk will take you to town and to the harbor. Ann and Charlie know the island well and take pleasure in helping their guests plan outings to nearby Acadia National Park, only five minutes away by car.

Other accommodation choices

The Loft efficiency apartment, popular with honeymoon couples, is attached to the main house with its own entrance. A sunny balcony overlooks the spruce and pine woods. The front corner bedroom has a queen bed while a smaller bedroom has a single bed. There is a full bath with tub and shower, an efficiency kitchen, a dining/living area with easy chairs, and cable TV. Linens and cooking utensils are provided.
