Greenwood Manor Inn sits on 108 acres of lawns, gardens and
woodlands at the tip of Long Lake in the forested foothills of
Maine's majestic White Mountains.
Bear River is just a stone's throw away, and skiing at
Shawnee Peak and Sunday River is only a short drive from the
Bed and Breakfast Inn.
Greenwood Manor was built in 1870 as a private residence
and converted into a bed and breakfast hotel during the late
1980's. Each of seven guest rooms and two suites is located in
the carriage house and is uniquely decorated with antiques
that serve as a reminder of the home's century-plus heritage.
All rooms have private baths and offer spectacular views of
the 108-acre estate's perennial gardens as well as the various
vistas cast by the White Mountains. Some rooms also have
fireplaces, and the new suite has an oversized whirlpool tub.
What once was an old ice house has been converted into a
plush den with leather furnishings, a brick fireplace, and
television. And if the weather permits, there's nothing better
than spending an evening or lazy afternoon out on the inn's
spacious covered deck. Guests start the day with a full,
home-baked country breakfast served in the spacious dining
area or on the covered deck overlooking the gardens.
The area around Greenwood Manor is full of recreational
opportunity. For starters, you may want to visit either of two
crystal-clear lakes that are just a short stroll away. Both
lakes offer the water-sport trifecta of quality boating,
swimming, and fishing. Canoes are available for guest use.
Nearby rental shops offer a full line of kayaks, motorboats,
and jet skis. There are five golf courses in the area and
countless nature trails found in the Lakes Region that are
great for biking, hiking, and wildlife watching. Maine's fall
foliage is truly unforgettable. |
When the snow falls ski enthusiasts will face the difficult
decision of which slope to try first. Ski downhill slopes of
Shawnee Peak and Sunday River. Cross-country skiers and
snowshoers will have a half-dozen locations to choose from,
including Five Fields Farm, only 15 minutes away, as well as
the trails in the forest surrounding the inn. Snowmobilers
have over 600 miles of trails to try, starting at the Inn's
back door. Other wintertime diversions include skating, sleigh
rides, and ice fishing.
Enjoy the scenic Kangamangus Highway or drive up to the top
of Mount Washington. Both are less than an hour's drive away.
