The Lodge at Moosehead Lake, rated four diamonds by AAA and
four stars by Mobil, is the ideal spot for a relaxing getaway.
The Lodge is located 2-1/2 miles east of Greenville, Maine,
a classic small town with only one blinking traffic light,
where civilization meets untouched countryside. One of the
greatest endowments of the area is the unspoiled 40-mile lake,
the largest natural lake within the confines of the state.
Outdoor themes with traces of wildlife combined with rustic
flair and the scattering of traditional English furnishings
are what makes Moosehead so appealing. All of the tastefully
appointed lodge accommodations have a hand-carved, queen-size
bed in a nature scene, private bathroom with large whirlpool
Jacuzzi, and a charming gas fireplace. Two of the retreat
suites have beds suspended from the ceiling by booms chains,
while the third has a moose antler canopy. Rustic
floor-to-ceiling cabinets encase the fireplaces and hide a
color television and VCR to make the room look as natural as
possible.
In the mornings, a buffet is set out, "allowing guests
to eat the moment they come into the dining room."
Yogurt, juices, fruit, dry cereals, and assorted breads make
up this starter buffet. Soon after, you are treated to the
main course, which usually starts with scones made with fruit
and nuts followed by such delicious entrees as pecan souffle,
stuffed French toast, Finish pancakes, loggers breakfast, and
sometimes wake up shakes. In season, dinner is served two
times a week; Monday and Thursday.
The Moosehead game room is filled with activities to occupy
your time, namely a full-size pool table. Lovers of the Great
Outdoors are in for an unspoiled treat! Your hosts recommend
fishing, hiking, mountain biking, snowshoeing, downhill and
cross-country skiing, and moose safaris. Just three hours away
or less are Acadia National Park, Baxter State Park, and
Quebec City.

was selected one of the best 12 Inns in the country by "Country
Inns" Magazine. The Inn is the only AAA Four-Diamond
rated and Mobil Four-Star rated lodging in inland Maine.
"This is a very relaxing and romantic place,"
says Sonda. "We get lots of honeymooners and elopers, but
most of our visitors seem to be really busy people who come
here to escape. We cater to guests who enjoy the great,
unspoiled outdoors but also want all the creature comforts of
home." |
