The Captain Lord Mansion, overlooking the Kennebunk River,
is an intimate and stylish New England inn situated at the
head of a sloping village green. The Inn is located in a
residential area of Kennebunkport, Maine filled with 17th- and
18th-century Colonial and Federal period homes that have been
meticulously preserved.
You will receive a warm welcome from your hosts, Rick and
Bev, and their dedicated staff, who will go out of their way
to make your bed and breakfast lodging experience a memorable
one.
Viewed across the long manicured lawn, the historic Captain
Lord Mansion sits peacefully shaded by large maple trees. As
perennial gardens lead you to the entrance, the door seems to
swing open and welcome you home for the night. Once inside the
lobby, the warmth of hardwood floors, period furniture, and
beautiful decorations will dazzle you.
Each morning you can awake to the sweet aroma of a full,
three-course breakfast. Savor each Mansion favorite, ranging
from English-style porridge to the sinfully sweet indulgence
of homemade sticky buns. Served family-style, breakfast is a
great time to plan your day in the area, whether you are
interested in a day of shopping, sightseeing, or beachcombing.
The Inn is located just three short blocks from Dock Square,
the commercial center of Kennebunkport, making it a convenient
hotel alternative. Here you will find small galleries,
restaurants, gift shops, and lots of Kodak moments. Within two
miles of Dock Square is the coastal fishing village of Cape
Porpoise, where lobster boats and brightly colored buoys dot
Cape Porpoise Harbor. Within five miles of the Port are
Laudholm Farm National Estuary Reserve and the Rachel Carson
Wildlife Preserve. Both of these nature areas provide you with
scenic vistas, wooded hiking trails, and a peaceful
opportunity to see wildlife.
Of course, a trip to Kennebunkport is not complete without a
trip out "Ocean Avenue" to view the rock-bound
coastal vistas, the shingle-style "summer" cottages,
and President George Bush's family compound. Kennebunk Beach
is just a five-minute drive away, allowing visitors to wade in
the waves or soak up the sun. A favorite day trip is spent
traveling up the coast from Kennebunkport with a stop at L.L.
Bean and then traveling down one of the many peninsulas to
view the rocky coast and one of the many lighthouses that dot
the southern coastal area.

Interior
From the Main Lobby
you will see the formal gathering/dining room, incorporating a "Centennial
Chippendale" table and chairs centering on a large open
fireplace. Cozy up to the original 1812 cooking fireplace or
lounge on the camelback sofa or a high-back wing chair.
Each guestroom's unique appointments have been carefully
chosen to create an adventure for your senses and the feeling of
total luxury. Oversize four-poster beds, cozy gas fireplaces,
heated marble bathroom floors, body-jet showers, double
whirlpools, and stocked, non-alcoholic mini-bars are some of the
top-draw amenities your can expect. In addition to the
immaculate cleanliness of the Inn, Bev's detailed touches are
evident in each room. Custom-made draperies, dust ruffles, and
throw pillows, combined with her personally selected wall
coverings, upholstery fabrics, and bed linens, create a warm and
intimate room environment. |
