The Fairhaven Inn offers bed and breakfast lodging in a natural haven where this tidal river meets the vast meadow and where birds sing and eagles soar, creating a feast for the eyes. This large, comfortable New England home is surrounded by 16 acres of rolling meadows, shaded green lawns, and woods of hemlock, birch, and towering white pines.

Built in 1790, this gracefully proportioned, 18-room antique colonial home has been lovingly restored and recently converted into the charming country inn that awaits you today. There are eight rooms, six with private baths and two that share a bathroom. Beautiful antique and country furnishings throughout the house provide the perfect accent to the home's natural charm. At Fairhaven, you have all the space needed to mingle or be alone.

In the morning, start your day with a full breakfast. Then in the evening, enjoy fine dining at any one of the many restaurants in town.

The large surrounding woods offer hiking or cross-country skiing. Relax on the terrace, curl up in the Tavern with a good book, work on a jigsaw puzzle, or find pleasant conversation with your hosts or other guests. For all you "shopaholics", L.L. Bean and the outlet stores of Freeport are only 20 miles away.

While in the town, "Fill your sails with History" at The Maine Maritime Museum and Shipyard. Visit some of the 20 museums and Historical Societies, including the Chamberlain House (hero of Gettysburg), The Stowe House (here Harriet Beecher Stowe wrote Uncle Tom's Cabin), and the Musical Wonder house (Wiscasset). For those who crave water activities, you may enjoy long relaxing walks on the two best beaches in Maine: Popham Beach State Park and Reid State Park. Here you can beachcomb or go sailing down the peninsula, charter a fishing boat, or go on a day trip for whale watching. There is something for everyone here at the Fairhaven.
