Homespun Farm, a 1740 Colonial farmhouse, was part of a family dairy and orchard business for more than 250 years before it became one of Griswold's most distinctive bed and breakfasts.

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, details such as exposed beams, wideboard pine and oak floors, and original latch hooks still take guests back to a time when life moved at a much slower pace.

The innkeepers, Kate and Ron Bauer, have also restored the orchard of apples, pears, and peaches, a legacy for guests to enjoy.

Accommodations at Homespun Farm include two guestrooms and one suite, each with private bath. Guestrooms feature beds constructed by Ron, period antiques, cable television, and other special touches that will make you feel at home. Air conditioning in the summer keep you cool, while custom fireplaces will warm you in the winter months. One room offers a bathroom built-for-two with double sinks, 2 headed shower and an extra large, soaking tub.

Awake to the aroma of a delightful, full breakfast, served daily at Homespun Farm. Breakfast is served in the candlelit keeping room or by the koi pond, weather permitting. After a hearty meal, you will be ready to discover all the treasures of this New England region

The Mystic Seaport, just 25 minutes away, gives travelers a chance to visit the Museum of America and the Sea, with dramatic tall ships, the 1841 whaler Charles W. Morgan, the schooner Amistad, and a 19th-century ship-building village.

You will also want to stop by the Mystic Aquarium to observe the Beluga Whale exhibit as well as Robert Ballard's (discoverer of the Titanic) deep-sea exploration exhibit. Museums abound in the area, including the Children's Museum of Southeastern Connecticut, the Nautilus and Submarine Force Museum, and the Florence Griswold Museum.

And of course, you won't want to miss testing your luck at the nearby Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun casinos.
