The Pelican Inn, is a Northern California
country inn that captures the spirit of sixteenth-century
England's west country. Seven snug lodging accommodations, a
cozy and hearty restaurant, a covered garden patio, and a
diminutive bar are combined in traditional English style. Upon
arrival, one enters another world.
The roaring log fire is lit everyday at The
Pelican in the inglenook fireplace. The inglenook is the very
heart of the inn, the source of many traditions and
superstitions. Here you can relax in front of a fireplace
large enough to sit in. Retreat to your chambers after a long
day and a pleasant evening. To repair the day's toils, snuggle
into one of the cozy "half-testers," a heavily
draped canopy bed. These have been incorporated into every
Pelican room. Each room, graced with English antiques, is also
replete (in Tudor parliance) with the "necessary room"
- the water closet, each with tiled shower and hand basin.
Enjoy a sumptuous English breakfast of
bacon and eggs, bangers, grilled tomatoes, toast, marmalade,
and steaming hot coffee or tea. The restaurant's daily menu is
a hearty blend of country English fare: prime rib and
Yorkshire pudding, mixed English grill, and cottage pie to
name a few. For dessert, an assortment of decadent delights
await you. The Pelican English bar reflects the best of the
pub and the club: fine ales, draught beers, stouts, pilsners,
and a whole range of wines, sherries, and ports from around
the world. The Pelican is a lot more than just a bit of Olde
England; it is also a superb venue for weddings, meetings,
banquets, Sunday brunch, or just a place to relax and "chew
the fat".
This is the perfect place for a quick
getaway over the hills to the beach, romantic honeymoon, or
relaxing retreat from San Francisco, Oakland, and Silicon
Valley. |
Scarcely 20 minutes from the Golden Gate
Bridge in the San Francisco Bay Area, the hospitable Pelican
nestles at Muir Beach in the sea-blown mist among pines and
redwoods of the Golden Gate National Park.
Spend a day walking on the beach,
journeying through Muir Woods, cycling, jogging up challenging
paths, or simply retreating from the city and its cares.
Try your hand at darts, the quintessential
pub game. Above all, enjoy your stay.
The dedicated and friendly staff regard
innkeeping as a public service with a duty to see that all
guests are properly lodged, fed, and looked after.

of this humble inn. The Pelican Inn at Muir Beach is indeed
another world. |
