Old West meets New
West at the Ghost City Inn Bed and Breakfast, a cozy Victorian
in Jerome, Arizona. Founded in the late 1800's and once a
booming mining town, Jerome became one of America's largest
ghost towns in the 1950's when the last of the mines was shut
down. The Ghost City Inn was built in 1898 as a boarding house
for miners and has seen many uses since that time.
Victorian and Early American
themed rooms add a special touch of history to the casual,
comfortable rooms available at the Inn. How about a stay in
the Northern Exposure Room, where you feel
like you have made a trip to the Alaskan frontier, or the Western
Room, which gives you the chance to experience the
real "Arizona West." The Miner's Suite
is the largest room, complete with a sitting area and faux
fireplace. Tin ceilings, a beautiful stained glass window,
faux wood burning fireplaces, and a brass bed can be found in
the Cleopatra Hill Room with gracious
furnishings in a spacious setting. All six rooms have attached
private baths.
Early risers are invited to
enjoy coffee and tea, available at 7:00 a.m., on the veranda.
At 8:30, a sensational breakfast awaits in the dining room.
Normally, breakfast starts off with a cold buffet of fruit
salad, yogurt, assorted cereal, and some granola that is
rumored to be the best ever. As for the main entree, although
Jackie is continually experimenting with new recipes, some of
the house specialties include Decadent French Toast, Southwest
Strata, and Maple Sausage Strata. Chocolate chip cookies (a
secret recipe) are served between 4:00 and 5:00 p.m. during
check-in.
Relax on spacious verandas and
watch clouds roll off the red rocks as the sun chases shadows
across the floor of Verde Valley. |
From the front
veranda you will witness the surrounding splendor of old
Jerome and the breathtaking views of the terraced red rocks of
Sedona. Stroll into town and wander through Jerome's many fine
shops, boutiques, and restaurants. You can also browse the
Inn's own gift shop.
Retreat to the
courtyard and relax in the secret garden, or soak away your
worries in the secluded outdoor hot tub. Jerome State
Historical Park and Museum is near the inn for a delightful
afternoon, as are historic buildings and the Mine Museum.
Explore, hike, or
mountain bike the surrounding peaceful plains or in the nearby
areas of Prescott, Sedona, and Oak Creek Canyon. |
