Homeplace Ranch is nestled in the Priddis foothills and
mountain area, a Sarcee and Stoney Indian territory of the
past that was and still remains cattle and horse country. Your
stay at Homeplace Ranch will let you ride these rugged areas,
venturing along lands the Indians called "Paradise."
A year-round working ranch, The Homeplace, in the Rocky
Mountain foothills, is 25 miles southwest of Calgary. Bordered
by ranches and the Kananaskis Forest Reserve, the ranch offers
an abundance of wildlife, including deer, elk, moose, beaver,
grouse and other wild birds as well as native flowers and
trees. Make sure to bring your camera!
You will truly feel at home at the home lodge, offering
private rooms with private baths. Evenings are often spent
around a warm campfire. On colder nights, the cozy living room
provides comfort with a wood-burning stove and fireplace.
Each day, guests are treated to some of the best ranch-style
cooking around. With all meals provided, you are advised to
pack an appetite for your stay! Hearty, family-style meals,
are enjoyed by both staff and guests eating together ...a
great time to hear about ranch stories.
Dances, ball games, and barbecues were as important to early
ranch life as hard work and riding, and they still are today.
Share them with the staff during your stay. You may get
involved by packing or saddling a horse, building a corral, or
attending a local dance. After a fulfilling day on the dude
ranch, sink into the Homeplace's outdoor Jacuzzi and feel any
tension drain away.
Your hosts, Mac and Jayne Makenny, truly hope you will share
a Canadian cowboy holiday with them at their guest ranch. They
have been in the guide and outfitting business for a number of
years and enjoy helping their guests understand a way of life
for which Southern Alberta is known. Every week, a limited
number of people can share the traditions, heritage,
recreation, and natural beauty that make up their unique
lifestyle at Homeplace Ranch. |
Homeplace Ranch is filled with activity for the entire
family, from routine ranching and riding to events and
excursions in the city of Calgary. Guests may spend as much or
as little time on horseback as they desire. You may ride for a
full or half day, or take a car trip to Banff, Spruce Meadows,
or the Glenbow Museum and Heritage Park, using the Ranch as
your home base. Grab your fishing rod for a walk along the
creek or a visit to the nearby lakes as you cast for grayling,
brookies, and rainbow trout. When the snow falls, you can
cross-country ski at the ranch, with dogsledding,
snowboarding, downhill skiing, skating, and snowmobiling
available nearby. Those who long for a bit of city life can
travel to Calgary for shopping, dining, and nightlife. For
something a little different, take in a polo game. |
